WhoGoHost offers tip to secure your email accounts against cyber criminals

WhoGoHost, a web solutions company in Nigeria, has offered a suggestion to Internet users to consider enabling two-factor authentication to protect their email account details from cyber criminals.

As the growing demand for email security becomes a major concern for Internet users, WhoGoHost reminds that emails have become a very important part of lives, where the password to all critical online access is sent to by simply clicking the “forgot password” link.
The Nigerian tech company says email account users should regularly change their passwords, and cited Reuters report, that Hold Security uncovered a total of 40 million Yahoo Mail, 33 million Microsoft, and almost 24 million Gmail accounts that were compromised.
“If you have an email account with Google, Yahoo, Microsoft or Mail.ru, then it may be time to change your password. This is because hundreds of millions of login details associated with email accounts with these providers have been circulating amongst digital criminals,” WhoGoHost advises in a recent customer advisory reviewed by Technology Times.
Toba Obaniyi, CEO of Whogohost Limited

The company thus suggest that while changing the passwords, email account users should consider enabling two-step authentication, saying “it is better to be safe than to be sorry.”
The two factor authentication is a way to secure your client area as it makes you login using your traditional password (something you know) and a token generated from a device such as your smart phone (something you have), WhoGoHost says.
This means that even if someone knows your password, your account is still secured as he would need to generate a token from your smartphone.
The company gives the steps to activate two-factor authentication on client area as follows:
  • Download the Google Authenticator for iOS and Android. If you use any other platform, you may search within your app store for an authenticator on your smartphone.
  • Login to your client area with the correct details.
  • Click on your name at the right of your screen. Choose the “Two-Factor Authenticator” sub menu to open the page.
  • Click on the Enable Two-Factor Authentication button to get started.
  • Open your Google Authenticator app on your smartphone and click on the menu item Set up account. Scan the QR code presented on your screen with the app. You may be prompted to download a scanner, in case you don’t have it.
After setting up the account, Google Authenticator would present a time-based code. Enter the code in the space provided and click the button to verify. You can return to this page to disable two factor authentication at any time.

Islamic state launches mobile app for children

A news broadcaster affiliated with the terrorist group ISIS has released an Android app that teaches children the Arabic alphabet — and it's full of references to weapons and jihad.

Al Bayan Radio, which broadcasts ISIS propaganda on radio waves in the Middle East and through its Android apps, made the app available to supporters on the encrypted messaging app Telegram and other platforms ISIS commonly uses. The app isn't available on the Google Play store, but can be accessed through files shared online.

This app is the latest step in Al Bayan's expansion — the radio network broadcasts on FM frequencies in the Middle East, but has also recently released other Android apps and Telegram channels that distribute its propaganda to a wider audience.

The Long War Journal explained how the kids' app works:

The app has games for memorizing and how to write the Arabic letters in addition to including a nasheed (a cappella Islamic songs) designed to help teach the alphabet. The lyrics in the nasheed are littered with jihadist terminology, while other games within the app also include militaristic vocabulary with more common, basic words. Words like 'tank,' 'gun,' and 'rocket' are among the first few taught within the application.

The alphabet app is not the Islamic State’s first mobile application, however it is the first to be directed exclusively to children. The jihadist group has also produced several videos from many of its proclaimed provinces showing children being trained for jihad or being indoctrinated at Islamic State-ran schools. Other videos have shown children being involved in beheadings and executions of prisoners held by the Islamic State.

Bend it, shape it: Lenovo's amazing bendable phone and tablet are coming

Samsung is apparently on the verge of releasing a foldable smartphone, but it won't be the only bendy handset on the horizon: Moxi has a black-and-white phone that turns into a watch, too.
And now Lenovo is getting into the game. At TechWorld today, the company quickly unveiled a couple of fascinating concept devices with working prototypes. What you see above is the Lenovo C+ (or CPlus), a smartphone/wearable hybrid that takes two very different forms.
Fully extended, it's a proper smartphone - albeit one with a very tall screen. But thanks to the bendy material along the back, you can clamp it onto your arm and turn it into a functional smartwatch.
It's very similar in scope to the Moxi device, but there's one very big difference: the C+ has already been publicly demonstrated. During the Tech World presentation, YouTube star Meghan McCarthy debuted the phone, showing how it can quickly change forms and still apparently be useable.
She also showcased the other device: the Lenovo Folio, which morphs from a full tablet design into a useable smartphone. As seen , the tablet form folds right in half to split the screen between sides, complete with an earpiece on one side and a back camera on the other.

It's actually pretty similar to one of Samsung's foldable device concepts, seen on Galaxy X preview, but Samsung's idea puts a separate screen on the outside rather than splitting the tablet screen found within. They would likely work pretty similarly, however, and serve common purposes.
Both the C+ and Folio have functional prototypes, but Lenovo wasn't announcing them as consumer products: for now, they're promising concepts that could one day become common devices. Still, it's an intriguing glimpse into a future of multi-purpose smart gadgets - and a hopeful respite for those of us who have shelled out for loads of individual devices already.
